Wisdom for the Day - Standing Strong

Day 006 Redeemed and Made New | 2 Corinthians 5:17

When the past keeps talking, it’s easy to believe it. We open 2 Corinthians 5:17 and sit with a bold claim: the old life is gone and a new life has begun. That single truth reframes identity, quiets shame, and offers a grounded way to stand strong when old labels try to return.

We walk through how redemption isn’t just forgiveness on paper—it’s purchased freedom that changes who gets to name you. You’ll hear how to spot the subtle voice that says “not enough,” why those reminders are lies, and how God’s truth speaks louder. We share a simple practice to replace harmful labels with Scripture, explain why being made new doesn’t mean instant perfection, and show how the Spirit works in daily, ordinary moments to shape courage, resilience, and hope.

You’ll also pray with us for confidence and freedom, then take one clear action: pick a label you’ve carried and replace it with a promise God has spoken. Write it down. Say it out loud. Repeat it whenever the old script plays. Along the way, we offer language, tools, and encouragement to help you live from a secure identity—redeemed, forgiven, and made new—so your past becomes context, not definition.

If this helped you stand a little taller today, share it with someone who needs strength, subscribe for more brief encouragements, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. We’d love to hear your word swap—send us a message from the show notes and we might give you a shout out on a future episode.

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to Wisdom for the Day. In a world that keeps shifting, this is where we return to what holds us steady. Let's begin today grounded, focused, and standing strong. Today is day six, Redeemed and Made New Corinthians chapter five, verse seventeen from the New Living Translation. This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone, a new life has begun. It's so easy to let our past mistakes define us. You know the feeling. That quiet voice that keeps reminding you of your failures, your missed opportunities, moments you wish you could undo. Maybe you've carried labels like I'm not enough, or I always mess up, or sometimes they stick more than we'd like to admit, but we say them. But here's the good news. When you belong to Christ, the story changes. 2 Corinthians 5.17 tells us that the old life is gone. Not erased from memory, necessarily, but no longer the thing that defines you. A new life has begun. Being redeemed means God has purchased your freedom. You're no longer a slave to shame and guilt or sin. He's given you a new identity, one marked by grace, forgiveness, and hope. Think about that. The chains of your past can't hold you anymore because God has already broken them. Standing strong in your identity means learning to let go of the lies that try to pull you back. The enemy loves to remind you of the old you, the failed you, the not enough you. But those reminders are lies. God's truth is louder. If you're a new creation, you are redeemed. You're forgiven. Now this doesn't mean that you'll suddenly be perfect or that life is never going to challenge you. There's still going to be moments of weakness and regret, but it does mean that none of that defines who you are now. God's Spirit is at work in you, shaping and refining every day you into the person He created you to be. You are being made new, step by step, day by day. Let's pray. Lord God, thank you for making me new in Christ. Help me to release the guilt and shame of my past. Teach me to walk confidently in the freedom that you've given me, knowing that my identity is rooted in you and not my mistakes. In Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen. Now, today, take one thought, one label, one word from your past, something you've been carrying, maybe failure or unworthy or not enough, and replace it with the truth from Scripture about your new identity. Write it down, speak it out loud, and remind yourself every time that God has made you new. I love you.
