Wisdom for the Day - Standing Strong

Day 13 You Are a Light in the Darkness | Matthew 5:14–16

Rick Yuhas Season 3 Episode 13

Some truths don’t whisper—they anchor. Today we lean into one of them: you are the light of the world. Not someday, not after you fix every flaw, but now. Drawing from Matthew 5:14–16, we talk about identity that doesn’t wobble with headlines, moods, or metrics and how that identity quietly changes rooms, routines, and relationships.

We name the pull to stay quiet, blend in, and privatize faith, then dismantle the lie that small efforts don’t matter. You’ll hear why light is meant to be seen, how motive keeps us grounded—letting people see God through us rather than notice us—and what it looks like to serve without seeking a platform. From offering a single word of encouragement to sending a thoughtful message, we map out simple, repeatable practices that push back darkness in homes, workplaces, churches, and neighborhoods.

Along the way, we get honest about the inner scripts that say you’re insignificant, and we counter them with truth: you’ve been placed where you are for a reason. We pray for courage, invite you to pick one intentional act today, and share a vision of influence built on faithfulness, not fame. If you’re ready to trade hiding for humble presence, this conversation will give you a clear next step and a steady heart.

If this spoke to you, share it with someone who needs a lift, subscribe for more daily encouragement, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. Your voice helps the light reach farther.

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to Wisdom for the Day. In a world that keeps shifting, this is where we return to what holds us steady. Let's begin today grounded, focused, and standing strong. Today is day thirteen. You are a light in the darkness from Matthew chapter 5, verses 14 through 16, from the New Living Translation. You are the light of the world, like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Jesus did not say that you might be the light of the world, or that you could be one someday if you got everything right. He said you are. Sometimes you'll never know how much your obedience and your patience mattered. Sometimes you'll never know how much your compassion mattered, but heaven knows. Standing strong in your identity means understanding that your light was never meant to be hidden or dimmed to make others comfortable. God has placed you exactly where you are for a reason. In your home, in your workplace, your church, in your community. You're meant to reflect his love and his truth, not perfectly, but faithfully. Now, if I'm honest, there are days when it feels easier to stay quiet, to blend in, or to keep my faith private. But Jesus did not call us to be invisible believers. He called us to shine. The enemy will try to convince you that you're insignificant, that what you offer doesn't matter, or that your light is too small to make a difference. That is a lie. Even the smallest light pushes back the deepest of darkness. One word of encouragement, one act of grace, one moment of obedience can shift an atmosphere more than you realize. You don't need a platform, you don't need recognition. You just need willingness. Let your light shine so that people will see God through you. Not so that they'll notice you, but so that they'll see God in you. Let's pray. Father God, help me to let my light shine today. Use my words, my actions, my attitude to point others to you, even in the smallest moments. Now here's what I want you to do today. Be intentional. Look for just one opportunity to brighten someone else's day. It could be as simple as a kind word or a thoughtful message or just a simple act of love that reflects the heart of Christ. Okay? See you tomorrow. Wisdom for the Day is produced by Lauren King, recorded at the Upper Room Studios with intro and outro music by Weston McCurry. I'm Rick Uhas.
